The YOLO days: LANGKAWI

This is the story of our post WACE, post Ausmat trip, a celebration of sorts for having finally crossed the finish line of our pre-university life. 3 days and 2 nights may seem like short time, but anything can happen, especially if you're traveling with a gang of 9 fearless, limitless teenagers.

19th November, 2014

Location: KLIA 2

It was my first time traveling on a completely self organized trip with friends. SO EXCITED!

Once we touched down Langkawi Airport, it was time to fetch our two rented Myvis. One of them, was this smoking hot babe waiting for us to pick her up

Who the heck designed this nightmare?! Haha at least we knew that we could never possibly lose it! Plus some white tourists even stopped by to snap a picture of our swag gay car. So Ben, please feel grateful to have had the honor of being its driver :P

Checked into Malibest Resort ( http://malibestresort.com/ ). We got two standard superior rooms and this was what it looked like

Pantai Cenang, 10 steps away from our room

Pros: Our rooms were connected which made it super convenient for us to share things, annoy each other and of course hang out together. Also, location wise it was fantastic! We were literally a few steps away from the beach, and being in the heart of Pantai Cenang meant walking distance from dozens of restaurants and cafes, 7-eleven and shopping. The price was affordable too - only RM80 per pax for a 2 night stay.

Cons : The air conditioning in one of our rooms wasn't working. The water pressure in the shower was so freaking low, washing the sand out of our hair took ages. Imagine 4 girls sharing one bathroom too. But if you're looking for something on a budget, these small issues shouldn't put you off from having a good time. It definitely didn't for us :)

The first afternoon, we just hung out at the beach and had an awesome time.....

Taking selfieeees

Catching live starfish

Letting our inner child run free, for some of us

Banana boat-ing, ahh, that beautiful adrenaline rush I've been craving for so long

And of course we had to throw some people into the sea >:)

20th November, 2014

After a good 4 hour night's sleep ( What? We actually slept? Wow) it was time to go island hopping!

With a price of around RM 250 we hopped on one of these motorboats for a spin around some of Langkawi's scenic islands. Not a bad price for a private tour!

Holiday mood so ONZ!  I can still hear our screams and cheers as we blazed across the water, wind whipping through our hair, the salty spray of the sea and the infectious happiness all around <3

First stop, the famous Pregnant Maiden Lake. See the outline of the expecting mama?

To get to the lake, we had to trek through the Dayang Bunting Marble GeoForest Park.
Warning: Not a place for anyone suffering from Pithecophobia (i.e. Fear of monkeys) because this forest is INFESTED with them.

Finally, the lake!

Something new worth to try: Natural fish spa with catfish! How did it feel?  A comfy, ticklish sensation albeit being a little weird!

Following the path leading us into the unknown

Another selfie along the way

Finally, an awesome view as a reward for our efforts in leg power under the blazing hot sun!

Stop two, Eagle Island. Unfortunately I do not possess any decent quality photos for this ><

Finally, we arrived at this little slice of heaven that just blew me away

Introducing to you, Pantai Beras Basah!

Welcome to paradise, people. Powdery soft sand carpets the beach, and the water here is so clear, so clean and so cool. What more of a perfect holiday destination could we have asked for? :')

The sea was practically screaming for us to jump in, and despite our previous promises to remain dry (LITERALLY dry. Why you think so much?), we couldn't resist the temptation and just plunged in

I never wanted to leave this place T.T

It had been a long day, but with Yolo Gang, even as night falls, the day is far from over. It has just begun.

We party from sunset...

.....to sunrise

I know, even 50 years from now, these pictures will be my time machine to a period of simple but significant joys. It will bring a smile to my face, a warmth to my chest. We can't tell where our futures will take us, but when I am old and gray, I want to remember the YOLO days.

The days we spent cruising recklessly along these small town roads that seemed like they were made just for us.

The days playing silly card games, laughing and screaming with enough volume to wake up the entire resort.

The night we owned the beach, the sky a vast, endless dome stretched above our heads, infinite stars winking down at us 9 crazy kids braving through the chilly sea breeze. Eating cup noodles and listening to the steady rhythm of the waves. Playing truth of dare, annoying random strangers. We serious-talked over our past, wondered about our future loves and shared the same sentiments : the bittersweetness of separating after meeting for just a year.

A year, but all the difference it makes. A year ago I would never have imagined myself star gazing on an empty beach in the dead of the night, in the company of a bunch of wild ones who could make me laugh till my stomach hurt and fill me up with so much joy and madness. It is precisely these kinds of surreal, out of this world, insane experiences that mean the most.

A photo I found from FB that closely resembles our adventure, minus the fire

And I will forever remember these people, the ones who epitomized the definition of being 18 - the time of being young, wild and free. Thank you for giving me one of the most unforgettable memories of my life.

After all, you only live once.

Forever Yolo <3
