University: My first two months

Epitome of being a uni student? ie. Party party partyyyyy

Hello! I realized I've never really officially introduced myself here, so this will be somewhat of an introduction I hope.

As of March 2015, I am officially a university student! :D :D :D Currently, I'm pursuing a Bachelor of Arts here in Monash Uni Malaysia. It was a decision made after many months of deliberating and doubting, making up my mind then getting all indecisive again. Finally, I decided to push ahead with my passion for all things creative and literature and social science-y, so here I am!

A typical day

8.30 am: I crawl unwillingly out of bed after hitting the snooze button way too many times, heh

10am -12pm: Work on assignments in the uni library, just because I it find a lot easier to focus on campus than in my bedroom at home, with my loving bed lying temptingly by my side

12pm: Lunch time, finally! For convenience's sake, usually it's just at Monash's too small cafeteria and their overpriced chap fan, grr

1pm -5pm: Go for lectures, tutorials, usually with a one hour break in between. That time will be used for more eating, or catching up with friends (and the latest gossip. We're girls, what to do?)

5pm: Drive back home. Traffic jams can really, really be a pain at this hour T.T

Sometimes, I stay back for club activities too (:

The timings are just a rough estimate, obviously. Nope this is no longer high school so I don't have the same schedule every day :P

No, Uni is not all work!

Yes, the assignments can be really time consuming (Who knew that even in Arts we would be subjected to so much research and writing? Oh the torture) but so far, uni life has been pretty damn awesome.

For example, I got to interview Hannah Yeoh for a journalism assignment! How cool is that? :D She was so confident and steady, yet warm and friendly at the same time. I could really feel her undying passion for a better Malaysia. She is truly inspiring <3

Now going back to the very beginning...orientation was a super fun week with loads of games and activities planned out for freshies, and I remember going for at least one event or self organized outing every week for the first month. Definitely a huge change after spending a laid back 2-3 months holidaying (which eventually got a bit dry and resulting in me dying for uni to start).

MUSA day, the first (kind of) bonding session with the new buddies

Now that I am coming to the end of the second month here, I've become more comfortable with the routine of this new life. Judging from the current pace the days are whizzing by, though, I'm getting the feeling that 3 years in university isn't going to be enough for me to truly soak it all in.

Monash music festival. I need more nights like these :')

Because even though it has only been 2 months, I've met the most amazing people here. Any worries or doubts of not being able to find good friends were cast away and forgotten within 1-2 weeks of embarking on this new journey. My buddies come from locally and all over the world. There is something exciting to be able to share to your old friends "I met a new friend today, and he/she is from Japan/Indonesia/Bangladesh/HongKong etc!" I feel so proud, for some reason. Maybe it's because it's my very first time having international friends, and it feels really really good to be able to learn their culture and share my Malaysian ones with them. Little moments like teaching them to use local slangs like 'lah' 'bojio', introducing local delights like roti canai and chicken rice and watching their adorable reactions - these are going to be memories, definitely.

The multi-national girl gangsters visit Jumpstreet

Most importantly, they make me laugh every day, and every moment I spend with them is always filled with happiness and silliness. I feel my childish and crazy side, which had lay dormant after a tumultuous 2014 slowly peeking out again, and some sixth sense tells me, that I am truly going to LIVE life the #yolo way in these 3 years.

When boredom strikes, tables get flipped ;P

As a final note, I want to say there's one thing people told me before I started uni that I am starting to find very true. You will have many acquaintances, but few friends. How many people can you get to know in a lecture hall of 200, really? With so many hi-bye friends coming in and out of each tutorial class, it's those whom stick by you despite the physical distance that will really matter the most in the end. And who exactly are those people for me, well, I guess I'll know the answer after 3 years!

Till next time!
